The more than probable departure of Ronald Koeman from the Dutch national team, to assume the reins of FC Barcelona, will free one of the most desirable benches at the national team level and despite the fact that there is still nothing official, the candidates are already applying to try to obtain the post.
This would be the case of Arsene Wenger, who would like to take command of one of the most powerful teams on the old continent. According to Fox Sports, the Alsatian coach has offered his services to the Dutch Football Association (KNVB) to replace Koeman at the head of the ‘oranje’.
The French coach has not coached any team since May 2018, when he decided to end his long experience at Arsenal. Wenger is currently head of football development at FIFA, a position he combines with that of football commentator.
The former ‘gunner’ has always stated that he would like to take on a new challenge on the bench and without a doubt the Dutch team is a ‘candy’ he wants to taste. “Every day that I want to train, I've been doing this my whole life,” Wenger recently told Europe 1.
Fox Sports host Jan Joost van Gangelen said Wenger immediately ran as Koeman's replacement should his move to Barca crystallize. If accepted, the Frenchman would take over the ‘oranje’ in the 2021 European Championship.
