Week 14 College Football Playoff Rankings: Heading into the Southern Conference championship game, Georgia football remains atop the list.
Athens — Georgia is going to be ranked #1 going into the SEC title game. Georgia is ranked first n the College Football Playoff rankings for the third week in a row.
There were some adjustments in the standings on Tuesday, though. The Michigan Wolverines upset Ohio State 30–24 over the weekend, moving them up to No. 2. Florida State is now ranked No. 4, while Washington is now ranked No. 3.
The only team among the top 8 that isn’t playing this weekend is Ohio State. The setback this past weekend caused the Buckeyes to fall to No. 6.
In the SEC title game on Saturday, the Bulldogs will play the Crimson Tide. The kickoff is scheduled to air on CBS at 4 p.m. ET.
Even though Georgia is ranked first, the Bulldogs are not guaranteed to advance to the College Football Playoff.
Against their respective conference champions, No. 5 Oregon, No. 7 Texas, and No. 8 Alabama are all able to pull off thrilling victories this coming Saturday.
The teams have faced off in the SEC title game before when a postseason berth was at stake. Georgia lost this game against Alabama 35-28 in 2018.
Although both teams advanced to the College Football Playoffs that season, the Crimson Tide prevailed against Georgia in the 2021 edition of the event.
When the two teams faced off throughout the 2022 National Championship Game, the Bulldogs prevailed over Alabama. However, Georgia admits that there won’t be much of an impact from the game on Saturday.
“I understand how difficult it is to prevail in this game. Coach Kirby Smart of Georgia stated, “My experience with Alabama was no different. “We had a year in which we were the national champions but not SEC champs.
That has occurred a few times throughout our meeting. Most conferences don’t have that easily accessible.
It, in my opinion, illustrates the breadth of our conference. It illustrates how difficult it is to even access the game.
The Georgia Bulldogs defeated their in-state foe, Georgia Tech, on Saturday, however it wasn’t the most elegant victory.
Rivalry weekend did not let down, as multiple games transpired to be closer than anticipated.
On Saturday, the Bulldogs not only achieved the longest victory streak in SEC history, but they also secured their third consecutive undefeated regular season record. They will now start getting ready for the NCAA Championship game versus Alabama.
The biggest game produced an incredible game as Michigan defeated Ohio State by sealing it with an interception on the game’s final drive.
Meanwhile, Washington defeated Washington State by a last-second field goal. Alabama narrowly defeated Auburn on the road when it appeared the Tigers would pull off the upset.
Georgia is ranked first in the College Football Playoff rankings in the third consecutive week after ranking second in the previous two rankings, according to the College Football Selection Committee’s fourth ranking, which was revealed on Tuesday.
Coming into championship weekend, the Bulldogs, who had a 12-0 record on the year, are placed #1 in both the coaches’ and the AP’s polls.
After defeating Ohio State, Michigan, which is also 11-0 on the year, is currently ranked No. 2 in the CFP rankings.
The Dawgs will now travel back to Atlanta to play Alabama in the SEC Championship in 2023. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET, and CBS will broadcast the match.
According to Circa Sports, Georgia was starting the championship weekend as 4.5-point neutral site favorites over Alabama.
According to ESPN, Georgia has a 51.9 percent likelihood of defeating Alabama in this match.
Georgia has beaten Alabama 42-26-4 in the all-time history, with the Dawgs winning the most recent meeting 33-18 in the 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship.
