“We must improve luck, success and effectiveness”

Garitano acknowledges that at some point they have thought of altering their usual 4-2-3-1 drawing to change the dynamics. But not so much, given his explanations. What he truly seeks is to link his third victory in a row in San Mamés, with the mold of the matches with Levante and Sevilla, the last two at home.

Asked if they have turned the system around, Garitano indicates that “we always raise it and, when you don't win often, more. You think about changing the scheme, we are with 4-2-3-1 but in the second parts we are playing with two forwards. We are always open to variations, to different people, many players are participating. Every day you think about how to improve, but those drastic changes in the scheme are rather for when a team does not have a good structure, which is not our case, or is not capable of leading in a game, which is not happening ” .

On these issues to improve, the Athletic coach has commented that “the most difficult thing is the process, in all the things that happen, the pressure, the structure without the ball, the start, how you get there, the balance … do it right. Then in that last third of the field it is often a matter of the precision of the players themselves and behind we are not having much luck. In these eight games what they have thrown at us between the three suits has entered. It is the most difficult to correct, the most important are the areas, it is what marks a football match. You have to improve luck, success and effectiveness, call it what you want. That the rivals are not so effective, that with little they score us and it is worth them to win. They have made us few occasions and many goals ”.

Garitano points out that “the intention is to play games like with Levante and Sevilla and win the third game in a row at home.” He thinks that removing the first part before those of Lopetegui and phases with Granada and Alavés, in the rest “we have dominated a lot, but from there to make clear chances it costs us, the precision of the last shot or the pass. Many times we are close to the area, but … It not only happens to us, many find it difficult to make clear chances but, the clearer you have, the closer you will be to scoring goals ”.

Betis outlines that “it is a technical team, with very good players, we will have to apply good pressure because they handle the ball well. He has good midfield players up. We must try as always to take advantage of the opportunities, to see if we have a little luck. Defensively they are suffering and that is something we must take advantage of. The intention is to play a good game, it will not be easy, we know, but what the team has in mind is to win ”.
