Wass returns to Paterna… for now

Daniel Wass appeared early this Sunday at the Valencia facilities. He had not done so for a week due to being confined by coronavirus and in fact his presence in Paterna is due to it. He went to undergo new PCR tests to diagnose when he will join the work with José Bordalás’ group. All this with Atlético’s offer still present and with the Danish player willing to accept it and leave Valencia, club with which the contract ends on June 30.

Wass, as Bordalás himself recognized this Saturday in the press room, has transmitted to Valencia, in the first person and also in the meeting that his representatives held last Thursday with Anil Murthy and Miguel Ángel Corona, that he wants to go to Atlético de Madrid , a club that offers him a contract immediately and for a minimum duration of 18 months (with the option of two more years). The player understands that it is an opportunity that at the age of 32 he cannot miss, especially when he is clear that his time at Mestalla was going to end in June.

The Dane, who intends to stand up for Valencia to accept the offer, went to Paterna first thing in the morning. He did it before the injured teammates (such as Carlos Soler) or those not called up (such as Thierry Correia) arrived for the match against Atlético Baleares. The player passed the test, picked up courier packages and left. Once you know the results, you will be summoned by Valencia to join the training sessions.

Bordalás already said at a press conference that he would not be the one who would make the decision on whether Wass left or stayed. In fact, he denied that he had made a commitment to Wass to let him leave Valencia for Atlético. Obviously, he did emphasize that he is an important player in his approaches and highlighted his professionalism in the event that Valencia finally rejects the red and white offer. At the moment, Valencia has not given an answer to Atlético, waiting to see how the market evolves.

Valencia, with Wass, will prioritize the sporting part over the economic one. To this day, Wass continues to be part of the club’s plans until the end of the season because they don’t have any spare parts within reach that are fully guaranteed by the Danish, taking into account that if he left it would not be one midfielder but two that he should incorporate. But Valencia is moving in the market and, although their priority is the signing of a central defender, as revealed by AS on Saturday afternoon, the club has formally asked Roma about Diawara’s decision.
