Vollering savors his first Tour de France in Pau and Van Vleuten falls off the final podium

MADRID, 30 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Swiss cyclist Marlen Reusser (SD Worx) won the eighth and final stage of the women’s Tour de France this Sunday, a 22.6-kilometre individual time trial starting and finishing in the municipality of Pau, while the Dutch Demi Vollering (SD Worx ) was second and officially sealed his victory in the general classification.

With his final time at the finish line of 29:15, Reusser once again demonstrated the power of the SD Worx team in this 2023 ‘Grande Boucle’, after four victories in eight stages played. Only 10 seconds behind the Swiss was Vollering, who thus savored the first Tour de France title for his record.

The negative note went to the Dutch Annemiek van Vleuten (Movistar Team), who collapsed in the final section of this flat time trial and lost the third position she had before starting it. The Polish Katarzyna Niewiadoma (Canyon//Sram), eighth in Pau (30:38), benefited from this to take the last place on the podium.

The ‘silver’ of this edition of the Tour will go to the Belgian rider Lotte Kopecky, who donned the leader’s yellow jersey for several days. Her third place on stage 8, with a time of 29:53, was enough to secure her formidable position in the general classification and bring the umpteenth joy to the SD Worx team.

Regarding the Spanish performance during this ‘big one’, Ane Santesteban (Jayco AlUla) was the most outstanding in the global calculation. Not surprisingly, the Gipuzkoan cyclist finally took eighth place, 9:36 behind Vollering’s brilliant lead.
