The Brazilian striker Vinícius Júnior was the player most chosen by the captains of the national teams and by the fans in the FIFA ‘The Best’ Awards, while the midfielder Rodri Hernández was the favorite by the selectors and journalists, according to reveal the data made public by FIFA.
The Real Madrid attacker got 617 votes from the international captains, compared to 373 from the Manchester City midfielder, while fellow Real Madrid player Jude Bellingham, who closed the award podium, received 164.
Among those who decided to award the maximum points (5) to Vinícius are teammates such as the Austrian David Alaba, who gave three to Dani Carvajal and one to Bellingham; or the Croatian Luka Modric, who closed the podium with Bellingham and Carvajal. The Canadian Alphonso Davies, the Colombian James Rodríguez, the Egyptian Mo Salah, the Norwegian Martin Odegaard and the Peruvian Paolo Guerrero, among others, also voted him the best.
Meanwhile, Rodri Hernández was the favorite for footballers of the stature of the Englishman Harry Kane, the Polish Robert Lewandowski, the Slovenian Jan Oblak, the Portuguese Bernardo Silva, the Algerian Riyad Mahrez, the German Joshua Kimmich, the South Korean Heung Min Son or the North Macedonian Enis Bardhi, among others.
Meanwhile, the Spanish captain and coach, Álvaro Morata and Luis de la Fuente, agreed in their votes and in the order: they chose Dani Carvajal as first, Rodri as second and Lamine Yamal as third.
The Argentine Leo Messi voted Lamine Yamal as the best footballer of the year, followed by his former teammate at Paris Saint-Germain Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius, and the Uruguayan from Atlético de Madrid José María Giménez opted for his compatriot Fede Valverde.
Vinícius also won among fans, taking 1,147,276 votes, compared to Bellingham’s 460,887 and Rodri’s 264,835. Meanwhile, the Spaniard won among the coaches, with 461 votes, compared to the Brazilian’s 438 and the Englishman’s 191; and among journalists, with 543, compared to Vinícius’s 538 and Bellingham’s 183.
