Vingegaard: “The battle I’ve had with Pogacar has been crazy”

MADRID, 22 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Danish cyclist Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) was “very grateful” to his team after tying his second Tour de France in a row this Saturday and described his “battle” with Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) from the first day as “madness”.

“The second victory in the Tour de France leaves the same good taste in the mouth as the first. There is still the Paris stage, and we must be careful in it because many things can happen. But yes, I feel great. I hardly believe it,” he said after a stage 20 that Pogacar won.

The Slovenian stood up until the end, but Vingegaard kept the yellow for Paris. “The battle that we have maintained Tadej [Pogacar] and me during these three weeks has been crazy. I’m sure the fans have had a lot of fun with us. I really appreciate the beauty of my duel with Tadej. He is a very good uncle and he has given me a lot of battle from Bilbao until today,” he said.

“I am very grateful to my team, because I could not have won this Tour de France without my teammates. We have done very well these three weeks. My best memory of this Tour will undoubtedly be my team, because we had a plan and we executed it perfectly. The worst, I don’t think I have any bad memories of this Tour”, he settled.
