Vilda: “Football codes have been transferred, what happens in the locker room stays there”

The coach, with “more strength than ever”, defends an “elite coaching staff” after the players ask for his dismissal

MADRID, 1 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The women’s national soccer coach, Jorge Vilda, was “deeply hurt” this Thursday because his players “have crossed the codes of soccer” by asking for his dismissal, but made it clear that he feels “stronger than ever” to continue in position and defended his “elite coaching staff”.

“I want to start with the feeling that I have of disappointment and I also feel deeply hurt by this situation, especially by the way of proceeding. I think that the codes of football have been crossed. The first law of football is that what happens in the locker room stays in the locker room, and it is solved in the locker room,” he said at a press conference that will be followed by the captains of Spain Irene Paredes, Patri Guijarro and Jenni Hermoso.

Vilda appeared before the media at the Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas (Madrid) in the midst of controversy over the desire of the squad for a change of coach. “I am a person of dialogue, my door is always open to improve and to discuss things,” she added, ruling out resignation and defending that she has an “elite coaching staff” present in the room.

“More strength than ever, more desire than ever. On the other hand, I also feel strong for the team we have built, which has earned the respect of everyone, and also for the support of our president, the Board, the entire support that I have received”, he pointed out, highlighting the confidence on the part of Luis Rubiales, president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).

The coach hoped that the focus would be on the qualifying matches for next year’s World Cup that will be played in the coming days, against Hungary this Friday and against Ukraine on the 6th. “I feel strong because we have a World Cup ahead of us.” , preparation, great players and above all I would like the focus to be on tomorrow’s game against Hungary”, he stated.
