Victorious debut of Spain in the European men’s volleyball

3-1 win against the Bulgarian team

MADRID, 29 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish volleyball team beat the Bulgarian team this Tuesday 3-1 (25-17, 25-21, 21-25 and 25-19) during the first day of the men’s European Championship, whose Group B is playing its matches in the city of Varna (Bulgaria).

Against the host team, the ‘RedLynxes’ showed a great version on the field of the Palace of Culture and Sports. Neither the pressure from the public nor the nerves of the debut stopped Miguel Rivera’s pupils, who were better from the service line and dominated in the key facets of the game.

After an even start to the match, the ‘RedLynxes’ achieved a five-point advantage thanks to Jordi Ramón and Miki Fornés complicating the rival reception, adding up to three direct kick points. Bulgaria chained several unforced errors, while the Spanish continued to be forceful in attacking and blocking.

The wall formed by Fran Iribarne and Borja Ruiz prevented the attack of the opposite Tsvetan Sokolov, to put Spain 1-0 on the scoreboard. Without lowering the intensity, Spain continued to set the pace. Powerful from the service line, forceful in attack and correct in reception, the Spanish team was always ahead in the electronic game, forcing the Bulgarian block to make changes to its lineup.

César Marín moved the game taking advantage of all his attack options; Jordi Ramón continued adding points from zone four, Fran Iribarne dominated the shots from the back zone, Borja Ruiz did damage in the first half and captain Andrés Villena did not miss the set point to make it 2-0 at the Palace of Culture and Sports from Varna.

There was a change of script at the beginning of the third set, as the local reaction emboldened the 4,000 fans in the stands. For the first time in the entire contest, Bulgaria took the lead on the scoreboard, moving away by up to three points. Despite some serve errors, Plamen Konstantinov’s charges closed the set in their favor.

However, the leadership of the young Aleksandar Nikolov faded in the fourth set. Spain pressed again from kick-off, forging a six-point lead (14-8). The ‘RedLynxes’ recovered their previous good feelings, displaying a great job in blocking and defense. The points from Andrés Villena and Jordi Ramón, the top scorers of the match, propelled the Spaniards towards the final victory.
