Víctor Chust: “Going on loan to Cádiz was a great decision”

Víctor Chust (Valencia, 2000) adds 20 games with Cádiz in his first year in the First Division, where he plays on loan from Madrid. The central attends AS in the concentration of the Sub-21, with which he is about to qualify for the next European.

How does your routine in the U21s differ from the one you have in Cádiz?

It changes the fact that we are focused all day, but it is necessary to get to know each other well. There are new people and it is necessary to make pineapple, because that is later noticeable in the field.

Which player has surprised you the most in concentration?

Pacheco. His serious personality on the field has nothing to do with his good vibes off it. He is a joker.

Is the U21 style more similar to Sergio’s or Cervera’s?

Sergio’s, without a doubt. In the national team he likes to be the protagonist of the games with control of the ball and that is also what Sergio wants.

For you, because of your qualities, it comes as a scandal.

Of course, but it’s true that with Cervera I also learned a lot defensively.

Is getting the ball played a mandatory necessity for a modern defender?

It is a complement. The important thing is to defend. If you then have a good touch, then better.

What has Sergio contributed to Cádiz?

With Cervera a lot was won in Cádiz, but this year the team was not going and Sergio brought fresh air and the team has responded. We want to maintain this good dynamic in the remaining final nines.

Did you expect to play so much in your first year in Primera?

Not at all. I had made my debut with Madrid, but I was a Second B player and adding 20 games in my first year is a personal achievement because the competition is very tough.

Was it hard to leave Madrid?

One always likes to stay in Madrid. Ancelotti was clear with me and the opportunity arose to go out to get minutes and get tougher, and it was a good decision.

Are you ready to go back?

I have a contract with Madrid and my intention is to stay there. But now I think about the day to day and we’ll see in the preseason.

Do you see Raúl trained to manage the first team?

Yes, he is a great coach who knows how to manage groups very well and has the ability to make the leap to First Division.

Cádiz’s next match will be special for you, against Valencia, on home soil.

I was left with the thorn of not playing in the Cup match. It would be a pride for me if my family and my friends from there could see me play that match.

He knows Bryan Gil and Hugo Duro well. Do you find it strange having to mark them?

On the contrary, with more confidence you can scratch more (laughs), but it’s also a double-edged sword if they do it to you.

Which player has been the most difficult for you to stop?

Gerald Moreno. He only played 15 minutes the other day and made me keep an eye on him the whole time. He didn’t stop moving.

Valencia, Betis, Athletic, Barça… What a calendar.

We’ve already beaten Villarreal and we’re not going to throw in the towel. Those games can be taken forward.

What grade do you give your season?

If we qualify for the European Championship and Cádiz stays in the First Division, it will be a 10-year season.
