MADRID, 24 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The German driver Sebastian Vettel (Aston Martin) has made it clear that he does not plan to run the Russian Grand Prix this year in protest at this country’s invasion of Ukraine, while the Formula 1 World Cup limited itself to saying that it is “supervising very closely” what is happening.

“Formula 1 is closely watching the very rapid development like many others and at this time has no further comment on the race scheduled for September. We will continue to monitor the situation very closely,” the championship organization stressed about a Grand Prix that is set from September 23 to 25.

On the other hand, Vettel was more forceful and assured that his “decision has already been made”. “It’s wrong to race in that country. I feel sorry for the people, innocent people who are losing their lives, being killed for stupid reasons under very strange and crazy leadership,” he said.

For his part, the current world champion, Max Verstappen (Red Bull), was also in favor of that option because “when a country is at war, it is not correct to run there”, but that this must be agreed upon by the entire ‘paddock ‘.
