Verstappen triumphs in France in another nightmare for Leclerc and Sainz finishes fifth

Sainz climbed back fourteen places to finish fifth and Alonso finished sixth

MADRID, 24 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Dutch driver Max Verstappen (Red Bull) took victory this Sunday in the French Grand Prix race, the twelfth round of the Formula 1 World Championship, benefiting from another nightmare by Charles Leclerc (Ferrari), forced to leave in the first third of the test, while the Spanish Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) completed a remarkable day, climbing fourteen positions from the last row of the grid to finish fifth, and Fernando Alonso (Alpine) was sixth.

‘Mad Max’ placidly dominated the race from lap 18, when Leclerc was involved in an accident while trying to escape from the Dutchman, who in the first few laps tried to attack the Monegasque several times. The driver of the ‘Scuderia’ complained by radio after the incident of a problem with the accelerator, accompanying his complaint with a shout of rage. The podium was completed by a one-two from Mercedes, with Lewis Hamilton and George Russell second and third, respectively.

Sainz starred in a day almost to frame, taking into account the complicated company that lay ahead, after starting penultimate on the grid. The Madrid native was once in contention for the podium, but had to pit in the final part of the race to change very worn tyres. For his part, Alonso had a very safe and solid drive at Alpine’s ‘home’ to close the top 6.
