Fernando Verdasco and Jaume Munar managed to overcome the preliminary phase of the Miami Masters 1,000 this Tuesday and will be in the main draw of the tournamentwhich starts this Wednesday. The man from Madrid won 6-3 and 7-6 (8) in the second qualifying round against the Frenchman Hugo Grenier (25 years old and 154th in the world) and the Majorcan was able to defeat the Swedish Elias Ymer (25th and 131st), whom he beat by 7-5 and 6-3.
At 38 years old and very low in the ranking due to injuries (he is 123rd), Verdasco is fighting to gain points that will allow him to play the Grand Slams without having to go through qualifying. Now he returns to a tournament in this category nine months after losing to Chilean Christian Garín in the first round of the Mutua Madrid Open. This year he has played four Challengers and lifted the trophy a few days ago in Monterrey.
Munar, meanwhile, is back in the draw as he did two weeks ago in Indian Wells, where he reached the third round. He is 89th in the ranking and also needs points to stay in the top-100. Verdasco and Munar, who will have Croatian Coric and Japanese Daniel, respectively, as rivals in the first round, join the other seven Spaniards competing in the tournament: Carlos Alcaraz, Roberto Bautista, Pablo Carreño, Albert Ramos, Alejandro Davidovich, Pedro Martínez and Roberto Carballés.
