The singer from Malaga performed at the Casa de España in an initiative of Santander SMusic and COE
PARIS, Aug. 11 (by EUROPA PRESS special correspondent Gaspar Díez) –
The singer and songwriter from Malaga, Vanesa Martín, performed this Saturday at the Casa de España of the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE) and got the Olympic water polo champions and the rest of the national athletes dancing on the eve of the closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Games, in an initiative of Santander SMusic and the COE.
The Malaga-born singer’s participation follows those of Natalia Lacunza, Ana Guerra, Pablo López and the finalists of the last edition of Operación Triunfo (OT) Juanjo, Lucas, Paul Thin, Martin and Ruslana, who inaugurated this cycle by performing the ‘hymn’ of the Spanish Olympians in Paris, ‘La Gravedad’, at the Casa de España, located in the Spanish College in the Parisian University City.
For Vanesa Martín, this initiative to combine music and sport is “inspiring” and “enriching.” “Sport and music have much more in common than people think. Both are vocational, they come from the heart and involve many hours of effort, discipline and relegating your personal life to the background and fighting for what moves you,” she said in statements to Europa Press.
In her opinion, elite athletes transmit “very noble” values to society and “some” people also try to transmit them in music. “I have experienced these Games with great emotion, with a bittersweet taste because I would have liked, for example, for the women’s football team to have taken home the medal,” she said.
However, Martín invited us to reflect on the results-based approach that is used to evaluate Spain’s performance in Paris. “Being fourth in the world is very brutal. If someone told me that, I wouldn’t be able to leave my house for a week. Music and sport try to stir consciences and leave a mark on people. Success is being here and surpassing yourself,” he said.
As a child, the composer from Malaga played handball and now plays padel. “I should do a bit more sport,” admitted the singer, who with the songs ’90 minutes’, ‘He sido’, and ‘Hablarán de ti y de mí’ got the players of the women’s water polo team dancing, honoured for winning gold in Paris 2024.
Recently signed by Universal Music at the end of June, Martín will release an album in 2025 and embark on a tour of Spain, South America and the United States. “This summer I’m resting, my representatives have convinced me and I needed it,” said the poet, a source of inspiration for the Spanish Olympians who triumphed at the Games that close this Sunday at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis.
COE President Alejandro Blanco said that Martín was a “source of inspiration” for all Spanish athletes, before posing next to her with one of the 28,000 Spanish flags made from used clothing, with which fans supported Team Spain in Paris in an action promoted by Banco Santander, the COE’s global Sustainability partner, and the COE itself.
