Vandeweghe: “I need money, I will play the US Open”

Coco Vandeweghe is in favor of playing in the US Open despite recent criticism from several tennis players to play in New York given the upturn in coronavirus cases in the United States and the risk it may pose for tennis players.

Speaking to Fox 5, Vandeweghe expressed his desire to play, something that influences his economic situation after three months without being able to play a tournament. “Economically I need to make some money and I will play. I don't think I have won enough to say 'No' to go play at the US Open.”

Vandeweghe also reviewed the difficulties he has had in training during confinement. “My club in Rancho Santa Fe was only for members, so I was looking for people to be able to rally with them. Before that I tried to look for private tracks and find out who had one to be able to play on it.

The tennis player also appreciated how she expects World Team Tennis to be, an exhibition tournament that will serve as a touchstone before the return of the competition. “World Team Tennis and its exhibition environment makes it easier and we can adapt to the game again. We need it after three months without playing. I have been fortunate to continue training in San Diego. “
