Van Vleuten regains the lead and Realini wins in Laredo

MADRID, 6 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Italian cyclist Gaia Realini (Trek-Segafredo) has prevailed this Saturday in the sixth and penultimate stage of La Vuelta Femenina, 106.1 kilometers between the Cantabrian towns of Castro-Urdiales and Laredo, while the Dutch Annemiek Van Vleuten ( Movistar) has assaulted the leadership of the general.

In a day with two important ports, Van Vleuten launched an attack in the first of them, the Alto de Fuente de las Varas -second category and located about 40 kilometers from the finish line- to leave the hitherto leader off the hook, the Dutch Demi Vollering (Team SD Worx).

With Vollering, who stormed the head on Friday with her stage victory, out of contention, only the transalpine runner kept up with the current champion of the Spanish round. The two took over until almost the finish line in Laredo, where Realini won the sprint.

In this way, Van Vleuten recovers the lead from the general classification that Vollering took from him on Friday, now second, 1:11 behind his compatriot, while Riejanne Markus (Team Jumbo-Visma) also from the Netherlands closes the provisional podium. Meanwhile, the Spanish Mavi García (Liv Racing TeqFind), sixth this Saturday, is eighth, 2:39 behind the Movistar.

The Principality of Asturias will host this Sunday the last stage of La Vuelta Femenina in a route that will begin in Pola de Siero and end after 93.7 kilometers with the ascent to the Lakes of Covadonga, where the red jersey will be imposed on the absolute winner of the round
