Valencia CF presents a 115 million project to inaugurate the New Mestalla

After more than a decade paralyzed, the construction works of the Nuevo Mestalla stadium of Valencia Club de Fútbol on Avenida de las Cortes in Valencia now seem closer thanks to the money injected by CVC into laLiga. The sports public limited company owned by the Singaporean businessman Peter Lim has submitted to the Generalitat Valenciana the supporting documentation for the Strategic Territorial Action (ATE), detailing a “financially guaranteed” proposal according to the entity to complete the stadium and other provisions incorporated into the ATE .

The Valencian Government had required this documentation in order to maintain the validity of the ATE processing, due to non-compliance with the deadlines set for the urban action and the abandonment of the half-built stadium. The club chaired by Anil Murthy assures that the works could be resumed as of October.

According to Valencia CF, plans to allocate 115 million euros to carry out the works that will allow the football field to be inaugurated. 172 million euros have already been invested in the construction of this stadium, which will reach the 287 million euros invested for its opening.

In addition, the sports society estimates that the total disbursement will exceed 350 million euros once the complete project has been completed, including the adjacent facilities and the planned tertiary areas.

In its statement, the company controlled by Peter Lim explains that the works of the New Mestalla will be carried out first and then the plot of the current Camp de Mestalla on Avenida de Aragón will be developed, which will again entail a construction cost of another 200 million euros. Until now, the unsuccessful sale of the plot of the current stadium, which has already been reclassified for housing and tertiary land, had been the main burden since the works were expected to be carried out with that income. “Overall, the project will generate 10 years of activity in the city of Valencia,” he says.

The completion of the new stadium is projected within 20 to 22 months from the time the works restart. The project also includes the construction of an adapted sports center in the Benicalap neighbourhood, as was agreed with the City Council.

Changes in the new coliseum

Once again, the final project will include changes to the one initially presented 15 years ago. Thus, the sports society assures that it is working so that the stadium can become a benchmark in the world with the realization of the roof completely made of solar panels through a partner technology, which will allow it to be 100% sustainable.

“With this, the more than 300 days of sunshine that Valencia has a year will be used to be a center for the production of green energy in the city, being able to supply not only the stadium, but also the neighborhood through a local energy community” , he points out. A nod to the Valencia City Council, which is committed to this type of solar photovoltaic energy community.

The new stadium, however, will start with a lower capacity than initially announced, since It will start with a capacity comparable to that of the current Camp de Mestalla. However, the club points out that there will be “the possibility of expansion subject to demand of up to 70,000 seats”, since it has a structure and a project that will allow it to increase its capacity in a flexible way.

Valencia CF also wants it to be a benchmark in the use of new technologies and connectivity for fans, in addition to developing a leisure and experience area that is open all week and not just when matches are held.
