Valencia Basket was left without a new European final after falling (73-83) this Wednesday against Virtus Bologna in the semifinals of the Eurocup, a match that the Italians dominated at La Fonteta.
The ‘taronja’ team suffered the same fate as MoraBanc Andorra, the Spanish team that played the first semi-final on Tuesday against Frutti Extra Bursaspor, despite being in the game at the start of the fourth quarter. Turks and Italians will meet on Wednesday the 11th for the title and the ticket to the Euroleague.
Joan Peñarroya’s team was underperformed at the start of an exchange of sets (17-24), with little success from three (8 of 28 in the match) that would end up condemning them, without any scoring contribution from Dubljevic or Tobey, and a highly motivated opponent.
Valencia’s moment came in the third quarter (19-12), where they took out the defense that a high-quality opponent was asking for. López-Arostegui, Rivero and Claver were the best of a Valencia that did not finish connecting any more of its weapons.
