Valencia advances to the round of 16 of the Cup in Elda

MADRID, 7 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Valencia has secured its place in the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey MAPFRE 2024-25 after winning this Tuesday, in the last match of the round of 32, against Eldense (0-2) at the Nuevo Pepico Amat , a result that represents the first victory for Carlos Corberán as coach of the ‘che’ team.

The Valencians, penultimate in LaLiga EA Sports and among whom the brand new signing Umar Sadiq made his debut, needed just nine minutes to take the lead in Elda, in an action by Diego López in which he found Sergi Canós, who turned inside the area to send the ball to the back of the net.

In the next play, Diego Collado was about to tie the contest with a shot that just missed the post, and Pepelu responded with a shot that did not find the target. Juanto Ortuño was also encouraged by the locals, but Stole Dimitrievski thwarted his chance just after the first half hour.

After a fall in the area by Eldense footballer Víctor García against Jesús Vázquez that the referee did not understand enough to call a penalty, the ‘che’ team increased the lead thanks to Diego López, who finished without opposition at the far post (min.39 ).

The Barça team looked hard for the goal when they returned from the locker room, but it was the Valencians who came close on a Diego López opportunity that Dani Martín saved with a spectacular save. In the 73rd minute, André Almeida found the goal, but the goal was disallowed due to Sadiq’s positional offside, which disturbed the local goalkeeper’s vision.

The scoreboard no longer moved and Valencia will be in the draw for the round of 16 this Wednesday, where it will join eleven other Primera teams, two from LaLiga Hypermotion -Almería and Elche-, one from Primera RFEF -Ourense CF- and another from Second RFEF -Pontevedra CF-.
