MADRID, 3 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Liverpool, solid leader of the Premier League, will seek to extend their lead at the top of the table this weekend in the visit to Anfield of a Manchester United in crisis, on a twentieth matchday in which Arsenal, second placed, faces to Brighton and in which Manchester City will try to confirm their reaction against Julen Lopetegui’s West Ham.
The Reds, who have not fallen since September 14 and have accumulated 23 games without losing in all competitions, dominate the standings with 45 points, six more than the Gunners (39) and eight more than Nottingham Forest ( 37), which links five consecutive league victories and which closes the day at Wolverhampton’s home on Monday. Chelsea (35), for its part, completes the ‘Champions’ zone.
On Sunday, the derby of the northwest of England will focus attention, with Arne Slot’s team ready to win for the fourth consecutive date in the English league and with Rúben Amorim’s United, fourteenth (22) with seven points above relegation, needing of a victory after losing their last three league games against Bournemouth (0-3), Wolves (2-0) and Newcastle (0-2), all without scoring.
Liverpool, which ended the year by beating West Ham (0-5), remains the team with the most goals (45) and the fewest goals (17, the same as Arsenal) in the championship, although with one less game. In the last three days, he has scored 14 goals and conceded four.
Before, on Saturday, Arsenal are also looking forward to a fourth consecutive win – fifth including the Carabao Cup win against Crystal Palace – that will allow them to defend second position in the standings. Mikel Arteta’s men will face Brighton, tenth (27th) in the table but who have gone seven league games without winning.
Chelsea, fourth, visits Crystal Palace in search of a victory that has eluded them in the Premier since December 15, a date since which they have added only one point of the nine at stake. Meanwhile, Newcastle faces Tottenham (24) with the aim of adding their fifth straight win and staying in fifth place.
For its part, Manchester City, which has fallen to sixth place (31), faces Julen Lopetegui’s West Ham at the Etihad Stadium and needs to continue its reaction against Leicester (0-2) to stay in positions Europeans. Until the duel at the King Power Stadium, Pep Guardiola’s men had only won one of their previous 13 games in all competitions, with nine defeats.
