MADRID 15 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Manchester City suffered a tough defeat (1-2) this Sunday against Manchester United in the derby held at the Etihad Stadium on matchday 16 of the Premier, with two visiting goals in the last two minutes to aggravate the champion’s crisis.
Pep Guardiola put his hands on his head once again as he saw his team collapse this time from a serious mistake by Matheus Nunes in the form of a penalty on Amad Diallo. Bruno Fernandes converted the maximum penalty in the 88th minute and, in the 90th, Diallo himself sealed the surprising comeback for the Red Devils.
The derby showed two teams in crisis, but Ruben Amorim’s United avoided their new coach’s third straight league defeat and came out with a broad smile. However, until that gift from Nunes, the visitors had left much to be desired, with zero offensive production except for a missed chance by Bruno Fernandes.
It was already in that final stretch, United looked for something to scratch or take advantage of the ghosts of a constricted City, without conviction in their actions or ability to sentence the match. Guardiola’s men had taken the lead in the 36th minute through Josko Gvardiol and tried their luck with a couple of shots from Phil Foden, but in the second half they trusted the minutes to pass.
The derby and three important points flew in a dramatic outcome for a City with one victory in the last 11 games, to leave the ‘Top 4’ of the Premier table, nine points behind the leader Liverpool with one more game. Meanwhile, United, even more needy although more accustomed to penalties, avoided moving further away from the European zone and greatly embittered their neighbor.
