Ukraine turns to TAD its defeat against Switzerland in the League of Nations

The Federation of Ukraine (UAF) has resorted to Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS) the decision of the UEFA to give up the last game of the group stage of the League of Nations against Switzerland, which was not played on the scheduled date last month due to infections of COVID-19 in the Ukrainian national team.

The CAS confirmed this Friday that The UAF requests in its appeal that the UEFA decision be annulled and that the game is rescheduled or that in your case the decision to declare you the loser is canceled and that the outcome of the match is decided by a draw carried out by UEFA.

The UAF filed the appeal to CAS against UEFA and the Swiss Football Association (SFA) after the decision of UEFA Appellate Body, on November 25, which declared Ukraine 3-0 loser of the game that was to be played in Lucerne on the 17th of last month.

The UEFA body made its decision by holding Ukraine responsible for the confrontation not taking place in accordance with the special rules applicable to the group stage of the League of Nations 2020-21.

On match day, the Lucerne health authorities decided that the entire delegation of the Ukrainian national team should remain in quarantine due to confirmed covid-19 cases and the game could not be played as planned.

As a consequence of that defeat, Ukraine was relegated from category in competition. The Ukrainian team was part of group 4 of League A, in which Spain finished in first position and qualified to fight for the title next year in the finals.

Germany finished second, Switzerland third and Ukraine in fourth place, for which they were relegated to League B.

The TAS reported that in the next few days appoint a group of arbitrators for the ongoing procedure, in which the parties have started to exchange written documentation.
