UEFA prohibits the Sheriff, Madrid’s executioner in the Champions League 21-22, from playing at home

The UEFA Executive Committee has decided this Friday that no competition match of that organization will be played in the region of Transnistriain Moldavia, until new notice. This has been determined by UEFA “in accordance with previous decisions taken in light of the large-scale military escalation that has led to the invasion of Ukrainian territory by the Russian army.”

The decision is based “on the considerations and conclusions that have been systematically drawn by agencies specializing in international political and strategic analysis, whose reports have been consulted by the administration of the UEFAfollowing the assessment of the current situation in the Transnistria region”.

“The UEFA Executive Committee, as the competent body for drawing up the regulations governing the holding of UEFA competitions (according to Article 50(1) of the UEFA Statutes), has overall responsibility to ensure the proper functioning of its competitions, which includes the obligation to temporarily prevent the holding of matches of UEFA competitions in certain regions when the circumstances so require.

“Consequently, Sheriff Tiraspol, who will start playing in the upcoming first qualifying round of the Champions League UEFA (season 2022/23), has been invited to propose an alternative venue/stadium (which must comply with all applicable UEFA regulations) outside the region of Transnistria for their home matches in UEFA club competitions while the ban on playing in the region remains in force.”

It should be remembered that the Sheriff gave the big bell in the group stage of the 2021-22 Champions League, winning 1-2 at Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The UEFA Executive Committee It adds that it “will stand by to convene new meetings, regularly and continuously when necessary, to reassess the legal and factual situation as it evolves and adopt new decisions as necessary.”
