UEFA investigates the chants of Republic of Ireland players after qualifying for the World Cup

MADRID, 13 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

UEFA announced this Thursday that it has opened an investigation to clarify the chant of the players of the Republic of Ireland team after achieving their qualification for the 2023 World Cup and that it would apparently be in favor of the disappeared terrorist group IRA.

Several video images circulated on social networks of the players performing this chant in the dressing room after last Tuesday’s 1-0 victory against Scotland that gave them the ticket for their first World Cup.

“In accordance with article 31(4) of the disciplinary rules, a UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector will investigate possible inappropriate behavior by the players of the Republic of Ireland women’s team after the second UEFA Cup qualifying match. World of 2023. Information on this matter will be available in due time,” said the governing body of European football.

Republic of Ireland coach Vera Pauw has already apologized to anyone who has been offended by the content of the post-match celebrations. “We will review this with the players and remind them of their responsibilities in this regard. I have spoken with them this morning and we are collectively sorry for any damage caused, there can be no excuse for that,” she said on Wednesday.
