UEFA donates 200,000 euros to help earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria

MADRID, 10 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

UEFA and the UEFA Children’s Foundation have made an initial donation of 200,000 euros to support the victims of last Monday’s earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, to whom it will also pay tribute at next European club matches week.

UEFA has made a donation of 150,000 euros to the Turkish Football Federation (TFF), while the Foundation has committed 50,000 euros to the Bonyan Organization and Tiafi (Team international Assistance for Integration), two non-governmental organizations working on the front lines. of the disaster response in southern Turkey and Syria.

The European football governing body is also coordinating the efforts of its member associations to contribute to a joint UEFA-UEFA Foundation disaster relief fund.

“UEFA is making this initial donation to help the immediate humanitarian response to this horrific tragedy. I also want to thank our member associations for their quick and compassionate reaction and the support offered to those affected by this terrible event,” said the UEFA president. UEFA, Alexander Ceferin.

In addition, UEFA reported that it is looking into organizing additional fundraising activities during the week of this season’s Champions League final, which will take place in Istanbul in June. A minute’s silence will also be observed before kick-off at all club competition matches next week as a mark of respect for the victims of the earthquakes.

This Friday, the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has reported that 18,991 people have died in his country alone due to the earthquakes registered on Monday on the southern border with Syria, where fatalities amount to 3,384, the total of 22,375.
