UEFA does not expel Madrid in the Champions League

The Executive Committee conducted by videoconference to discuss final matters related to the Eurocup had a section also for the possible sanction to Real Madrid and Juventus as leaders of the attempted split to the Super League and ruled that, for now, he will not sanction any team, although he will study the case to make a decision. “The UEFA Executive Committee received an update on the latest developments related to the so-called 'Super League', including the options available to UEFA and the steps it is considering taking.”

Although it was not on the agenda last Monday when it was announced that it would be Friday when the final venues of the Euro were decided, the seriousness of the matter caused the members of the Committee to delve into the matter.

One thing was clear and it is the most important: Madrid will not be expelled from the current Champions League. Neither City and PSG, nor Arsenal and United in the Europa League. The five teams were among the 12 dissidents that this week starred in the episode of attempting to create a tournament outside of UEFA.

The highest organism you can open a file to all of them, but he could not expel them from the competition this season as they had confirmed various jurists in As. The Disciplinary Code does not include this assumption and also UEFA it would have cost him a series of complaints from television operators that they would ask for damages by dispensing with matches and teams for the remainder of the tournament. Therefore, there will be Real Madrid-Chelsea in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

The question lies in knowing if UEFA continues its investigation against Madrid, because in that case it could prevent whites, like Juventus, from participating in the next edition of the tournament. That is collected by regulation and it is the organization itself that can accept or reject the teams that qualify for Europe. That assumption is still up in the air and will need to be addressed in the coming months, before next season.
