The UEFA Executive Committee approved on Wednesday key amendments to the regulations for the men's and women's Champions League and for the Europa League of the 2019/20 season, to allow the enrollment of three new players in List A, provided that such players “were already enrolled and eligible since the last enrollment deadline.”
This measure, therefore, prevents the registration of newly signed players but allows clubs to enroll three new players in their List A for the rest of the 2019/20 season.
The requirement is that said players were already registered and were eligible by the club from the last registration period. That is, on February 3, 2020 for the Men's Champions League and the Europa League and on March 18, 2020 for the women's Champions League.
“List A can only contain a maximum of 25 players. Clubs will not be able to register newly signed players”UEFA said. In this way, players like Martin Braithwaite, signed by Barcelona in mid-February for the injured Ousmane Dembélé, cannot be registered. The Frenchman could play, if he recovers in time.
In the resumption of European club competitions five changes will also be allowed, in accordance with the temporary change in the Laws of the Game. The number of substitutions for the 2020/21 season will continue to be three.
Furthermore, the Executive Committee approved the key principles of UEFA's medical protocol. In the coming weeks, “all detailed guidelines will be finalized to ensure that a comprehensive health plan is put in place to protect the health of all participants in UEFA matches when competitions resume,” he said in a statement.
