UEFA breaks with Gazprom

MADRID, 28 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

UEFA has unilaterally canceled its sponsorship deal with Gazprom, Russia’s largest gas company, in response to the Russian offensive in Ukraine, it confirmed on Monday.

“UEFA has today decided to end its association with Gazprom in all competitions,” European soccer’s governing body said in a statement.

In this sense, he explained that the decision is “effective immediately” and will cover all existing agreements, including the Champions League, UEFA national team competitions and Euro 2024.

This is the second blow to Gazprom in less than a week, after Schalke 04, currently in the German second division, decided to remove the name of the Russian company from their shirts on the occasion of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

This same Monday, FIFA and UEFA have agreed to suspend the Russian national teams and Russian clubs from all competitions, so the men’s team is excluded from the playoffs and will not be in the Qatar World Cup, the women’s team is out of the European Championship in England and Spartak Moscow, from the Europa League.
