UDG Tenerife wants to wake up Sporting de Huelva from the cupbearer dream of 2015

MADRID, 23 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

UD Granadilla Tenerife and Sporting de Huelva premiere this Tuesday the ‘Final Four’ of the Copa de la Reina 2021-2022 football match at the Municipal de Santo Domingo in the Madrid town of Alcorcón (9:00 p.m./Teledeporte), with a first semi-final in which the girls from Tenerife will try to prolong their good run against some Andalusians who dream of retaining the 2015 title.

Without a doubt, Sporting de Huelva faces this new opportunity to be in a cup final with enthusiasm. Seven years ago, in their first final in the entity’s history, they beat Valencia 2-1 in Melilla. Now, they are one step away from at least being runners-up.

But it is his coach, Antonio Toledo, the first to put limits on those dreams. “I know that 2015 comes to mind for Huelva, they hope to repeat the feat that the team did seven years ago, but we have to keep our feet on the ground,” the coach acknowledged in the preview.

And it is that the UDG Tenerife has them, it seems, taken the measure. In the Primera Iberdrola, the Tenerife team’s visit to Huelva ended with a clear 0-3, and the second round was 1-0 at La Palmera Stadium. You have to go back to Huelva’s 2-1 against Tenerife in March 2021 to see Huelva’s first victory.

The Copa de la Reina presents a new scenario for both teams, where the past counts for little. And Granadilla Tenerife comes with the desire to get into what would be its first cup final. Fifth in the First Iberdrola, where they fought until the final days to be in the Champions League, they started as favorites in the pools against Sporting who managed to save the category, but who scored very well in the ‘ko’ tournament.

In the quarter-finals, Francis Díaz’s men beat Sevilla 2-0, with goals from Claire Falknor and Ange N’Guessan, while they also did not give Valencia a chance in the round of 16 (0-3). For its part, Sporting de Huelva reaches this ‘Final Four’ after eliminating a ‘bogeyman’ like Atlético de Madrid (2-1) and Madrid CFF (1-2), with Anita Marcos as a great reference.
