Two hundred boats fill the Pontevedra estuary in the Rey Juan Carlos Regatta – El Corte Inglés Master

The second day of the 9th Rey Juan Carlos – El Corte Inglés Master Regatta brought together two hundred boats this Saturday in the Pontevedra estuary with the premiere of new classes in the race.

While seven of the nine divisions will still compete for the final victory on Sunday, the 6 Meter fleet completed its competition program this Saturday with victory for King Juan Carlos’s “Bribon” in Classics and for Violeta Álvarez’s “Stella” in Open .

The conditions improved and around two thirty in the afternoon, with a northwest wind of about 6-7 knots, the fleet resumed the competition. For the 6 Meter fleet, this Saturday’s day was the last of its competition program and the Rey Juan Carlos Regatta – El Corte Inglés Master already has winners in the Classic and Open divisions.

In Classics the victory went to the “Bribon” of the RCNS, which today had King Don Juan Carlos on board and added two third places, results that were enough to win with a six-point advantage over the second place, the Finn. “Astree III” by Oissi Paija from the Nyländska Jk. The podium was finally closed by “Aida” from MRCY Baiona.

There were also no changes at the top of the Open table and the “Stella” of Violeta Álvarez, from RCNS, managed to secure the victory with a fourth and a second place scored and five points ahead of the Greek “Aera” of Fotis Lykiardopulo, of the R. Yacht Squadron, who finished second. Behind, the third box was occupied by the Swiss “Ginkgotoo” by Jan Eckert, from SN de Genève.

With the start of the Xacobeo Trophy this coming Monday for the 6 Meters class, an event that will put the European title at stake until Saturday, October 5, the fleet will enjoy its day of rest this Monday while the rest of the classes compete in the last round of the Rey Juan Carlos Regatta – El Corte Inglés Master.

The ORC fleet 0-2 and 3-4 completed a single race on the race course located in front of Ons. In the 0-2 group, the first position was awarded to the “Urbapaz” of Fran Edreira, from CN Cabanas, a result that maintains second place in the classification, just one point behind the “Mirfak” of the Navy with Diego López the controls.

At 3-4, the “Regulus II” of the Marín Naval Racing Commission with Francisco Javier Pavon at the helm added a victory this Saturday with which it remains for the moment one point behind the “Travesío” of Álvaro Martínez, of the RCNS, which also maintains the lead for the second consecutive day.

In ORC 5, the victory of the day went to “Ronáutica Marinas” of Joaquín Carneiro, from CD Alagua, who is the overall leader. Carneiro’s men also had an advantage of more than eight minutes in compensated time over the second placed team, Fernando Rey’s “Albarellos”, from MRCY Baiona.

In JCH Veteranos, for its part, Tala Martínez’s “Papanatas” was the best and debuted with partial victory and leadership ahead of Javier Pazó’s “Cassandra” and José Antonio Ortigueira’s “Iasi”, both from the Club Náutico de Portonovo.

The Optimist class inaugurated the competition program this Saturday for its first qualifying regatta of the 2024-25 season. The sailor from Bahia Alejandro Alonso provisionally occupies the first position ahead of José Luis Ríos from RCN Vigo and Daniel Iglesias from CND Riveira, second and third respectively. In women, the first classified is Emma Pérez from A Coruña, occupying eleventh place overall.

For her part, RCNS representative Carla Teijeiro is at the head of the blue group, which was only able to compete in one race on the Pontevedra estuary regatta course. He is followed in the general classification by Javier Piñeiro from RCM Aguete, who is second, and Jorge Andrés from RCN Vigo, who provisionally occupies third position.

Another class that also debuted this Saturday in Sanxenxo was adapted sailing, which completed six short tests in the vicinity of the RCNS. The best of the day was Nicolás Cons’ team, which is in first position with five first places and one second scored.
