Turrientes ends Scottish resistance
The U-21 signs its second consecutive victory with a solitary goal from the Real Sociedad midfielder

The Spanish U-21 team, with a header goal from Beñat Turrientes in the last part of the match, beat a combative Scotland this Monday (1-0) on the second day of the qualifying phase for the European Championship of the category, which will be held in the summer of 2025 in Slovakia.
At the Victory Stadium in Jaén, Santi Denia’s new team celebrated its second consecutive victory to settle at the top of Group B, all after beating a fierce rival with a solitary goal from the Real Sociedad midfielder, which ended the the Scottish resistance with seven minutes to go.
With three changes compared to the eleven that started in Friday’s win against Malta (0-6) -Hugo Bueno, Javi Guerra and Samu Omorodion-, the Spanish had problems generating chances against a Scottish team that was closed behind and created danger to the counterattack.
Liverpool striker Ben Doak warned in the ninth minute with a shot inside the area that Pablo Cuñat had to act against, and after half an hour he tried his luck again from the edge of the area, but his shot went over the crossbar.
‘La Rojita’, with Ilias and Gabri Veiga as the most outstanding men, tried with distant shots that barely worried the British goalkeeper. Despite having more of the ball, he did not manage to get any closer and the score did not change at half-time.
As soon as he returned from the locker room, midfielder Connor Barron put fear into the current European runners-up by finishing off a cross that Alejandro Francés deflected into a corner. Despite everything, Spain managed to get rid of its rival to start hitting.
In the 52nd minute, Ilias took a deflected shot that preceded Pablo Torre’s great chance, who in the 59th minute, with a low shot, crashed the ball into the post. Hugo Novoa, one of the additions of the second half, also found the crossbar with a cross in the 63rd minute.
