MADRID, 21 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The German coach Thomas Tuchel will not continue to lead the Bayern Munich bench once this season ends, after the coach and the club agreed “by mutual agreement” to then end his contract, according to a statement from the entity.
“Bayern Munich and coach Thomas Tuchel have decided by mutual agreement to end their relationship, which in principle ended on June 30, 2025, on June 30, 2024,” the team announced.
The decision comes after a “friendly” meeting between the club's general director, Jan-Christian Dreesen, and Thomas Tuchel himself. The German replaced Julian Nagelsmann as Bayern coach in March 2023, to conclude a last season in which he became Bundesliga champion.
However, the current sporting situation of the Bavarians is alarming, mired in a crisis of results after stringing together three consecutive defeats, with the serious threat of being left without titles in a season for the first time in 12 years.
Bayern has already been eliminated from the German Cup and is eight points behind the current Bundesliga leader, Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen. In the Champions League, on March 5 they will face the second leg of the round of 16 against Lazio in Munich, where they will be forced to come back from 1-0 in favor of the Italians.
“We have agreed to end our relationship after this season. Until then, of course, I will continue doing everything possible with my coaching staff to achieve maximum success,” Tuchel said in statements published by the club on its website.
For his part, Dreesen highlighted the “open and positive dialogue” with the coach to reach this agreement, with the aim of “restructuring” the club's sports management. “In the Champions League, in particular, we are convinced that we will reach the quarterfinals in a packed Allianz Arena with the support of our fans,” predicted the manager, who also blamed the players for the poor results.
