MADRID, 7 Apr. (SportsFinding) –
Chelsea’s coach, Thomas Tuchel, admitted that “they don’t” have “options for the second leg” after the 1-3 draw against Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals and lamented that they did not offer the level required by the eliminatory and the rival.
“It is very, very important to process this first. It is absolutely crucial that we go to Southampton first. I will make sure that everyone processes this, it is the most important thing right now. If we continue to play like this, we will lose to Southampton. to think about the Bernabéu, they will pass us over at the Bernabéu”, he commented.
“Options to pass? No, we don’t have, right now we don’t have options for the second leg. We are not alive because we have to find our style again. I don’t know where it has gone since the international break. We are very far from our level in absolutely everything that is demanded. You cannot ask us to play a good game at this level”, he added.
Asked what had gone wrong, the ‘blues’ coach said “everything”. “Not only how open we have been, but also where we have passed the ball, how we have passed it. Where we have attacked, our intensity, our desire. The first half was far from any minimally acceptable level on our part. We cannot complain when we lose ourselves after a half like this,” he added.
Finally, Tuchel said that this is a “tough defeat and one of the worst first half” he has seen “here at Stamford Bridge”, he told BT Sports. “At this level, you can’t play like that, individually or as a team. We haven’t given enough, none of us. We’re not doing what we used to do and we’re far from our level. That’s how games are lost,” he said.
