Tsitsipas suffers against Musetti to play his third final in Barcelona

BARCELONA, 22 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Greek tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas has beaten the Italian Lorenzo Musetti (4-6, 7-5 and 3-6) this Saturday in the first semifinal of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell-70 Conde de Godó Trophy, and thus manages to play his third final in the Barcelona tournament in search of his first title.

He had not given up a single serve in the entire tournament and Musetti was able to break the Athenian’s serve up to five times. In fact, the Italian was able to win the second set and cause the semifinal to go to three sets and a total of 2:28 hours of play.

Musetti, who came fresh from not having to play his quarterfinal duel on Friday due to the previous withdrawal of his compatriot Jannik Sinner, put a Tsitsipas in trouble, who suffered in the Barcelona arena for the first time in this tournament.

However, the man from Carrara paid dearly, too much, for the bad start of the third set, with 0-4 for the second seed of the tournament. Tsitsipas finally found the best version of his serve and twice broke the serve of the Italian, 21 years old and number 20 in the world. Despite the fact that he improved his game, to sign 3 games and leave with honor, it was Tsitsipas who celebrated, with anger and effusiveness, his victory in this beautiful battle.

Despite the suffering, perhaps dragging the effort of having played two matches the day before –the individual against Alex de Miñaur in the morning and the doubles in the afternoon–, Stefanos Tsitsipas will play his third Godó final, after previously losing the of 2018 and 2021, both against Rafa Nadal.

On this occasion he will not face the Manacorí, on ‘his’ Rafa Nadal court after the name change that the tournament made a few years ago in honor of its twelve-time winner. But Stefanos Tsitsipas will face either Carlos Alcaraz, the current winner and Nadal’s heir at the moment, or the British Daniel Evans, who will play the second ‘semi’.
