Stefanos Tsitsipas was one of the great favorites to be in the final of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell and against Sinner nor disappointed those who bet on him. The Greek won 6-3 6-3, continues at a very high level on earth (He has not given a single set since Monte Carlo) and will play the Godó final tomorrow. Nadal will try to prevent the Greek from taking the title.
Tsitsipas started determined, once again, with the confidence that it gave him not having lost a single set between Monte Carlo and Barcelona. He dominated on serve and had two break balls in the second game, but Sinner held out. The young Italian chained good shots, looked for the Tsitsipas backhand and was relatively comfortable with the serve in favor. The Greek was more aggressive, he went up more to the net, but without a prize when he had to subtract (2-2). Sinner was able to break Tsitsipas' serve as well, but he deployed his best tennis to prevent it.
Tsitsipas always left the feeling that he could squeeze his rival more, that when he needed it he would surpass Sinner. But a series of bad shots (with several 'reeds') they made the game a little more suspenseful. On the sixth ball he broke the break and took the set (6-3)
Sinner was able to lead for the first time in the match thanks to a blank game at the beginning of the second set, but Tsitsipas answered quickly, very comfortable with the serve in favor. The Italian wasted a break ball to go 3-1 and face the set with better prospects, but Tsitsipas reacted and decided the match: 2-3 and break up.
Sinner had yet another break point to tie the game, but ended up succumbing against a Tsitsipas who improved the effectiveness of his first serve. With his rival already defeated emotionally, the Greek went through the last points of the game with ease. Tomorrow he will face Nadal in what will be Tsitsipas' second final at Godó, since he already lost one (precisely against Nadal) in 2018.
