MADRID, 27 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Real Madrid basketball team confirmed on Monday the departure of the American power forward Trey Thompkins, who ends his stay with the Madrid team after seven seasons marked by certain irregularities and for not having barely played in the latter.
“Real Madrid CF announces that our basketball player Trey Thompkins has ended his relationship with the club. Real Madrid wants to show its gratitude and affection to Trey Thompkins for the seven seasons in which he has defended our jersey and wishes him all the best.” best to him and his family in this new stage of his life,” the club said in a statement.
The American is the second march confirmed by the current champion of the Endesa League along with the one announced this past weekend by Swedish forward Jeffery Taylor, who has also worn the Madrid shirt for the last seven seasons.
Thompkins, who arrived from Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod, leaves Real Madrid with a total of 13 titles: one Euroleague, four Endesa Leagues, three King’s Cups, four Spanish Super Cups and one Intercontinental Cup.
The power forward was key above all in winning the 2018 Euroleague in Belgrade against Fenerbahce when he scored a decisive basket after an offensive rebound for the victory of Pablo Laso’s men. However, an injury in the final stretch of the 2020-2021 campaign kept him inactive until the recently completed campaign was already well advanced and he failed to regain his best form, with the addition that at the beginning of April he was separated by Pablo Laso with Thomas Heurtel and did not play again.
