MADRID, 14 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Luz sports center in the Madrid town of Tres Cantos will host the Spanish Under-20 Wrestling, Sambo and Combat Sambo Championships on March 23 and 24, which will feature the participation of more than 500 athletes.
In sambo, international medalists such as the Gracia brothers, Ibai and Gorka, Jazmín Arjona or Paula Lanza will be present along with the Olympic wrestling specialists Felipe Ferrusola, Marc Arias or María Cazalla, the three young people who fought for bronze in the last European sub- 20 of Santiago de Compostela.
112 national champions will emerge from Tres Cantos. The championship, which will start both days at 9:00 a.m., will be held on six mats, instead of the usual four, and admission will be free until capacity is reached.
The championship will determine the members of the Spanish team that will compete in the next European and World Championships and, in the case of the Olympic matches, also the Young Promises Tournament in La Nucía (Alicante).
“Especially important is the National Under-20 Olympic Wrestling, since in September we celebrate the world championships of that category at home, in Pontevedra and, although we will not have a definitive team, we will select little by little from there. In sambo and combat, we will draw a very clear conclusion about who will participate in the continental championships in Serbia in May,” explained Francisco Javier Iglesias, president of the Spanish Wrestling Federation.
