Tragedy in Marchamalo with the preparations for the Copa del Rey

Two people have died in Marchamalo (Guadalajara) when a crane collapsed from a height of 20 meters. The event took place this Friday, at 6:48 p.m., in the municipal sports facility of the ‘La Solana’ Sports Complex, while both men were making repairs to the spotlights on the field for the next Copa del Rey match.

The Marchamalo City Council has issued a statement as a sign of condolences and decreeing the official mourning: “By decree of the Mayor’s Office, from today until next Tuesday the 30th, the flags will fly at half-staff at the Marchamalo City Hall and at the ‘La Solana’ Sports Complex, as a sign of mourning for the death of two workers while they carried out installation work for the additional lighting for the Copa del Rey match that was to be held on Tuesday at this municipal facility against Real Valladolid.

The two deceased were finishing their work on one of the provisional towers placed around the football field, which was suddenly defeated causing them to fall from a height of more than 10 meters on the pitch itself. One of the two deceased did so on the spot and the other was transferred seriously injured to the Guadalajara Hospital, where he ended up losing his life tonight.

Both the Marchamalo City Council and the Marchamalo Sports Club want to convey their deepest condolences for what happened to their families and loved ones. The municipality of Marchamalo is shocked by this tragic accident, so during these days different symbolic acts will be carried out in memory of the two deceased workers, in addition to the declaration of these days of official mourning“.

The Federation of Castilla La Mancha has also expressed its deepest condolences and has made itself available to the Marchamalo Sports Club, as well as the town council.
