Tottenham beat Newcastle 4–1 thanks to two goals from Richarlison and some great play from Son.
Spurs finally got a win after going without one for a while when they beat Newcastle United 4-1. Eddie Howe’s tired team scored a consolation goal in extra time, but they are still seventh in the conference standings with 26 points, three behind Spurs.
The damage was done by Destiny Udogie, two goals from Richarlison, and a penalty by Son Heung-min in a one-sided game.
Ange Postecoglou’s team finally won after going five games without one. The away team scored the final goal through Joelinton.
Spurs beat Newcastle United 4-1 on Saturday at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, ending a Premier League losing streak of five games. Son Heung-min scored all four goals as Spurs beat Newcastle United.
After losing their last three home games to Chelsea, Aston Villa, as well as West Ham, Ange Postecoglou’s team got back to being at their exciting early-season best upon Sunday, thanks in large part to leader Son’s great passing and finishing.
Son played wide left and slid past Kieran Trippier, a former Spurs partner, before crossing the ball for Destiny Udogie to head in London’s first goal 26 minutes in.
Twelve minutes later, Son’s trickery paid off as he again left former Spurs right back Trippier behind, setting up Richarlison for a well-deserved second goal.
Newcastle had good starts to both halves, but they were undone twice more. Richarlison scored his third and second goals from close range on the hour mark, and Son won a penalty and slammed it home on the eighty-fifth minute.
Tottenham had lost 14 points this season when they were in a winning position, but their first win since beating Crystal Palace 2-1 at the conclusion of October was always likely. With 30 points, they are still in fifth place in the table, seven behind winners Liverpool.
Destiny Udogie scored his first Premier League goal, and Son Heung-min scored from a late penalty for Spurs. The win stopped a five-game losing streak that dropped them from first place in the standings for outside the top four.
“We could have scored more goals, however our attack was the best it has been in a while,” Ange Postecoglou, manager of Tottenham, said. “You can tell Newcastle is tired—we’ve been there, and hopefully we’re getting better.”
Because of a long list of injuries, Newcastle, which is owned by Saudi Arabia, has had to play with the same starting eleven for five games in a row in all categories.
The team was slow and lack of energy, especially in the middle of the field. They could have lost by a bigger score at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before their crucial Champions League match on Wednesday against AC Milan.
North End has lost all six Premier League games in a row, which is one more than they lost all of last season (2022–23). It only has one away win, an 8-0 win at Sheffield United. It stayed to seventh place, four points behind Spurs in fifth.
In that recent run of games without a win, Tottenham took the initiative every time. In the 26th second, Udogie scored from Son’s cross.
When Son easily got around Kieran Trippier again in the 38th minute and sent a cross to Richarlison, Spurs didn’t give up. Instead, they built on their lead.
That was his first goal to 20 Premier League games for Tottenham. He scored his second goal during the 60th minute by tracking down a diagonal pass in Pedro Porro and finishing between Martin Dubravka’s legs.
Destiny Udogie scored his first goal to the club after 26 minutes when leader Son Heung-min set him up. After that, they didn’t look back.
Son scored a penalty in the 85th minute after goal Martin Dubravka fouled him. It was the perfect ending to a tireless performance.
It was 2-0 before halftime thanks to a great pass from Son to Richarlison. He scored again upon the hour as an Tottenham dominated a Newcastle team that might have been thinking about next week’s important Champions League match with AC Milan.
