Toril: “You have to be more demanding to award a penalty like that”

Alberto Toril, Real Madrid women’s coach of soccer, lamented the penalti that supposed the equalizer of the Barcelona in the first leg of the UEFA Women’s quarter-final Champions League and that ended with a 1-3 victory for the rival.

“I am very happy with what I have seen but I am annoyed by the result. The game can be divided into two parts. Until the penalty we were superior and from the penalty they have been better. It is also normal looking at the context, we come from competing a lot every three days with very difficult games and that affects. But in general terms the match has been very good”, he opined.

“I’m annoyed because we’re in the quarterfinals of the Champions League and I think they should be more demanding in that type of action. It has no repercussion, it is not important, nobody asks for a penalty, the ball goes out. There is a slight contact but you shouldn’t whistle, you have to be a little more demanding in the quarterfinals,” commented.

Toril considered that the match was balanced: “The penalty determines. And then we’ve been tied at one until 81. I’m happy with what I’ve seen, I’ve seen a team that can really beat another. The image has been very good on our part.”

“I think the result is a bit bulky for what was seen on the pitch. We have seen a first part where even the result has been short. The second part has been more even. Today I have the feeling that we were able to win perfectly. It has been very well planned, very well played by our players and we have been very close. We have been very close,” he said.

Despite the setback, he affirms that they will try to turn the intersection around: “We know the shield we have, we are going to compete. We have to go out to win knowing that it is difficult, obviously. We have a good rival up front and it’s going to cost us but we’re going to try to play a good game again”.

Before, they face a league duel: “It’s our day to day, our most important tournament because it gives us the option to play again in Europe. We play again in three days and it’s hard. We have had a difficult month but the girls are behaving in an exceptional way.”

“We are going to think about Levante. It is a very important match for us, the most important. And from there we will think about Barcelona. We know in the club that we are, the shield that we have and that we must compete in every game and try to win it. That’s how we’ll deal with it. If it gives us to classify us well and if not, try to play a good game, “he said.
