Tommy Haas sees Alcaraz “prepared” to succeed Nadal and Djokovic “if he stays healthy”

BERLIN, 27 Feb. (STATS Perform/dpa/EP) –

The German tennis player Tommy Haas, who became number two in the world and Olympic runner-up in Sydney 2000, believes that the Spanish Carlos Alcaraz is ready to be the successor to his compatriot Rafa Nadal and the Serbian Novak Djokovic, although he also believes that he should Take better care of your physique.

“Yes, you have to say he’s ready. He had an incredible year, right. He won a title in Rio, on clay, and then he came to Indian Wells playing extremely good tennis, losing a hard-fought match against Rafa (Nadal ) in the quarterfinals,” Haas told Stats Perform.

The current director of the Indian Wells Masters 1,000 recalls of that duel with the Spaniard that both “played incredible tennis” and that in the case of the Murcian, “you could see the way he moves on the court, his mental strength and the selection of blows that he has, the repertoire that there is”. “There’s really nothing missing,” he admitted.

“In my opinion, being so young sometimes can be the only obstacle, because maybe you want it too much or think about things too much. Or maybe, in this case, don’t think about it too much and go out and do your best, fight already give everything”, added the German.

Haas does not forget that the man from El Palmar continued that streak by “winning in Madrid” and that “later he won his first ‘Grand Slam’, the US Open, and became the youngest world number one”. “So his rise was fast… It’s unreal, I can’t even imagine how his life has been turned upside down in so many ways,” he stressed.

In this sense, the German tennis player sees the injuries suffered by the 19-year-old as the only mole. “He’s a guy who wants to stay and stay on top for a long, long time. With his game and his potential, if he stays healthy… That’s the thing, he’s already been injured a bit at a young age, so which is a small warning sign,” he said.

“I think that’s where his team is obviously very smart. I think they’re trying to build up his body to handle the amount of travel and the stress that tennis puts on the body, to make sure he has a long career, because that It’s what everyone hopes and dreams of,” Haas said.
