Bethanie Mattek-Sands, Nine Times winner of Grand Slam Doubles, was all set to compete in the BNP Paribas Open. But it was heart-breaking to know the day before that all the hard work she has been doing for the tournament gets cancellation.
It was all due to the sudden outburst of the deadly Coronavirus that did manage to bring the shutdown all over the world. The tournament was going to begin at Indian Wells in Palm Springs, California. The tournament also has the title of the “Fifth Grand Slam” in the world of Tennis due to its competitive field. Most fans and viewers were waiting for the tournament to happen as it was one of the first major sports events. But unfortunately, it was off due to the Coronavirus pandemic which breaks the heart of millions.
Currently, Bethanie Mattek-Sands has been self-isolating at home with her husband Justin and her hitting partner Ettore. She has been spending most of her time keeping her body in shape to play in the tournament when everything will be back to normal.
Mattek-Sands says, “One of the things that have helped me through this phase is keeping a schedule”. She continues, “Even though I know I can work out at any point in my day, I set a time that I want to get this workout in by. I set times when I’m waking up and having breakfast. Finding a few things you can stick to in your daily routine is helpful when there’s a lot of uncertainty and your scheduling is really off.”
Bethanie Mattek-Sands is following her tight and hard schedule in order to be healthy during the quarantine days. She wakes up daily at 7 AM and is doing 3 long-hour workouts that will help her keep in shape. Of course, the workout involves training and practicing for long hours with her hitting partner in her private court. Her consistency in following the hard schedule daily is what makes Mattek-Sands one of the best professional tennis players.
