Triumphs of José Fumero in the City of Madrid Trophy and Fernando de los Santos in the Exterior Plus Trophy

This Saturday, the representation of Spanish riders and horsewomen signed a pleasant second day of Ifema Madrid Horse Week (IMHW), with the victory of Daniel Martín Dockx riding ‘Malagueño LXXXIII’ in the Grupo Eulen CDI-W FEI Dressage World Cup Grand Prix Trophy Freestyle, the highlight of classical dressage.
The City of Madrid Trophy, a 1.40 meter test of the CSI1* and which was the first event of the day, concluded with good Spanish news. The Canarian José Fumero and ‘Figuier du Roc’ stopped the clock at 21.26 seconds, which finally allowed them to win. Second place also stayed at home, since Alejandro Entrecanales and ‘Baby Boy du Murger’ surpassed the Dutchman Eric van der Vleuten Jr., who competed with a horse born in Spain, ‘Flint de Maeza’.
Then in the Exterior Plus Trophy, a 1.25 meter test of the CSI1*, Fernando de los Santos and ‘Isba Caps’ achieved their second victory in this edition of IMHW, since this pairing had won the inaugural test of the event . In addition, Carolina Marsá was third on the back of the veteran ‘Andi D’Emiralia’.
The routes without penalty were the tone of the Marqués de Vargas Trophy, as well as the dominance of France with two of its riders taking the first places: Olivier Robert on ‘Espri du Figuier’, with 55.33 seconds, and Philippe Rozier on back. from ‘Dirty Sweet’, just three hundredths away. The best classified Spaniard was the rider Teresa Blázquez with ‘Bella PS’, who finished without demolitions in seventh place.
Meanwhile, dressage achieved one of the great Spanish successes so far at the IMHW. It was with the victory of Martín Dockx in the Grupo Eulen CDI-W FEI Dressage World Cup Grand Prix Freestyle Trophy. The veteran rider has been riding ‘Malagueño LXXXIII’ all over the world for more than a decade and at Ifema he defended the pride of the pure Spanish breed, being in this edition the only example of this type.
Shining in parts such as the piaffé or the trot, with a composition on Spanish music chords, Martín Dockx received a score of 80.870 from the judges, which allowed him to win with more than a point margin. The great Spanish day was completed thanks to Beatriz Ferrer-Salat with ‘Elegance’. Current champion of Spain, this pairing managed to be third with 78.425 under the chords of Giuseppe Verdi.
LOTS OF ACTIVITY IN THE HORSE SHOW
This day also hosted a multitude of activities for all audiences at the Horse Show, such as the I IMHW Farriers Congress, organized by the company EKI Herrajes. With its soundtrack of anvils, rasps, hammers, tongs and sanders, and its spectacle of sparks and hot metal, its contest entertained visitors.
And finally, ‘How Andalusian Horses Dance’ was staged, a show by the Royal School of Equestrian Art of Jerez. Presented by the Alfonso Eight riders and horsewomen danced to the rhythm of a purely Spanish repertoire and with costumes in the style of the 18th century.
