Thousands of people from Almeria celebrate the promotion with the team and managers

Thousands of people from Almería took to the streets of the city this Tuesday to celebrate the promotion to LaLiga Santander of UD Almería, whose squad of players, coaches and managers travels from this afternoon to different areas of the capital in an open-top bus, in the midst of a festive atmosphere that will last until night.

The Andalusian team, after drawing on Sunday in Leganés (2-2), have finished as champions of LaLiga SmartBank ahead of its two main rivals, Valladolid -also promoted- and Eibar, and seven years after its relegation (2014-15), it achieved the goal of returning to the First Division at the hands of its owner, the Saudi minister Turki Al -Sheik, and coach Joan Francesc Ferrer ‘Rubi’.

The rojiblancos fans, as on Sunday night, once again filled the streets of the city this Tuesday in the official celebration of the third promotion of the Unión Deportiva Almería in its short history, the fourth in terms of Almería football because the extinct Agrupación Deportiva Almería already did it in 1979.

In an open-top bus that left around 7:30 p.m. from the Mediterranean Games Stadium, the players, the coaching staff and the club’s leaders toured the main streets of the city to celebrate the promotion and, in addition, the title of Second Division champion, after having been 19 of the 42 days as leader and 37 in total between the two first.

In their triumphal walk through the city, the Almeria squad has been ‘awarded’ by thousands of fans who crowded in the festive ‘cavalcade’ of the Sports Union, most dressed in the entity’s red and white colors, scarves and flags , among numerous displays of joy.

Before immersing yourself in this route through the main arteries of Almería, the staff was received by the mayor, Ramón Fernández-Pacheco, who congratulated the team for a promotion that, according to what he said, came after “many people from Almería” were “on the verge of a heart attack”, in addition to highlighting Turki’s project and that the objectives have been met within the established deadlines.

“The category is neither won nor lost; you either have it or you don’t, and Almería has proven to be a First Division city,” stressed the Almeria councilor, while the club’s CEO, Mohamed El Assy, thanked the effort made for the entire squad and for the fans, of which coach Rubi assured that it has been “fundamental and key”.

The Atletico captain, goalkeeper Fernando Martínez, also took part in the act, although, overcome with emotion, he could hardly highlight the “great work” of all his teammates, who chanted his name before the veteran goalkeeper, visibly moved, broke to cry for the joy of the ascent.

Posteriorly, the party has moved to the Plaza de las Velas, where the players have received cheers and applause, with red and white flags in the wind to celebrate an exciting jump to the highest category of Spanish football.

Almería, whose professionals, directors and fans will continue tonight with the celebration with a final party at the Estadio de los Juegos Mediterráneos, He has played, since 2007, six seasons in the First Division, until his relegation at the end of 2014-15, and the next 2021-22 will be the seventh in the elite of Spanish football.
