Thoughts on Iowa State’s Liberty Bowl loss, even though Becht or Higgins played great

The city of Memphis Iowa State’s offense was shaky for about two or a half quarters. The defense was often not strong enough.

The still-good Cyclones season came to an end when they lost to Memphis 36–26 in the cold Liberty Bowl. Iowa State fought all the way to the end.

On the first play, the Cyclones were down 19–0, but record-setting Enrico Becht as well Jayden Higgins fought back to pull them within three scores.

With 9:55 left to play, Jaylin Noel scored on a 23-yard catch. With 440 yards against Kansas State in 2008, Austen Arnaud earned the school record with the most yards to a single game.

With 446 yards, Becht beat that mark. It’s not only for bowl games. For each Iowa State game. That’s pretty cool, right? Yes, of course.

Because the Cyclones were not playing any running games, Becht had to throw a lot. Iowa State moved the ball for twenty times but didn’t get any further.

Twenty runs to feed no yards again. They had trouble getting to the ball, but Higgins (214 receiving yards) and Becht were good at it.

What else could you do if you’re only 6 yards from the stop zone and it’s third-and-5? After two plays, Iowa State had the ball on Memphis’s 4-yard line.

They ran a draw play. That day, you couldn’t run onto the middle of a line. This is what coach Matt Campbell stated after the game: “Let’s blame the assistant coach.”

“It’s 20/20 to look back.” I think I could have helped via that one. As a means of defending themselves, they did a few things which got us scared.

Kyle Kempt completed 24 of the 38 passes, gaining 314 yards and scoring two times in that 21–20 win.

For the past thirteen games, Campbell’s team has lost seven times when the score was three points or less. It’s been 1-4 in close games to feed the past two years.

It is planned that Iowa State or Memphis will play in the ESPN game in Friday during 2:30 p.m. (CT). Are you sure that Iowa State will prevail by 10.5 points?

The Cyclones will win, but I don’t think by more than ten points. I think they will win by a run by Chase Contreraz.

I’m going to choose among of the individuals field-goal dishes, and that can be a little scary at times.

Do you recollect the 2001 Independence Bowl? They should have given Dan McCarney’s team a walk-off win when they said youngster Tony Yelk missed, instead of a 14–13 loser to Alabama.

Friday became a game that helped you think in that way. It was hard for the good defense to stop Memphis’s high-scoring assault. The attack on Iowa State was awful. More than once, the Cyclones’ storage was set on fire.

There were a few the youngest players on Iowa State’s football team ever at the end of the season (7–6) because of these things. They were 10-3 as a team.

Higgins and Becht are hard to allow down in big games. At the start of the game, Becht threw to 328 yards, which already constituted the Iowa State bowl best.

With only one dollar to go, he did it. In this year’s Texas Bowl, Brock Purdy broke the old mark. Hicks had six catches to feed 180 yards around the same time.

In the end, he grabbed a total of nine passes to 214 yards. Becht said, “No matter where he is, I constantly look at his left toward the field.” “I believe in him that much.” Things will keep getting better. We’ll be better after this.

We were sure that Memphis’s defense would be strong because they had been at home. Still, we believed the Cyclones could have fought back at least.

It was clear that some people wasn’t where they should have been, especially when Memphis the quarterback position Josh Henigan proved throwing.

Even though it was the third quarter, the junior quarterback already threw four scores and gained 323 yards.

During the game, he made 24 of a total of 34 passes, gaining 364 yards and four touchdowns. The Cyclones didn’t give up. Memphis was situated at the 15-yard line after I caught a pass that went 40 yards.

Easton Dean caught a 15-yard touchdown throw from the quarterback with 4:21 left at the third quarter. Iowa State was 36–20 down. For the third time in the game, Becht struck Noel for a touchdown, giving the score 36–26.
