This is the first 1.5 euro coin that will circulate in Spain: price and how to buy it

In the midst of a review of euro banknotes from the ECB, the National Currency and Stamp Factory (FNMT) has decided to launch an announcement that also affects currencies, but in this specific case only Spain. Throughout this month of December, the first 1.5 euro bullion coins, in what will be a great attraction for collectors for this Christmas.

Since the euro was introduced, European citizens have lived with coins of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cents and 1 and 2 euros. Well, to close this 2021, in Spain will begin to see a value of 1.5 euros … although in a very limited way.

A bullion, or investment currency, that the Official State Gazette (BOE) announced on August 19 and so this December it will be put into circulation for collectors and those interested in this type of money. With 12,000 units minted by the FNMT, their appearance is unique in Spain with motifs that are very representative of the institutions and national culture.

This is the bullion coin of 1.5 euros in Spain

Proof of this are the motifs and legends of a real eight that illustrate its obverse, columnar type: two hemispheres under the royal crown, flanked by the pillars of Hercules with the motto ‘Plus Ultra,’ all this on a sea with waves. In addition, in its upper part, in a circular sense and in capital letters, appears the legend ‘Felipe VI King of Spain‘, while the lower one, also in a circular direction, can be read’ 1 Ounce 999.9 Gold.

For its part, the reverse is presided over by the head of an Iberian lynx with the mint mark and the year 2021 to its left. On this you can see the value, 1.5 euro, while below the animal, in a circular sense, is the legend ‘Iberian Lynx’.

What is a bullion coin?

All in an investment currency or also called bullion. Coins of precious metals, generally gold and silver, these pennies are not intended for circulation so they only store the metal from which they are made. In the case of the Spanish, it is made with 999.9 thousandths of fine gold that reach the weight of one troy ounce (31.1035 grams) and a diameter of 37 millimeters.

Either way, it has already been reported that 5 units will be in the Museum of the Royal Mint in full view of all your visitors.
