Thiem will return in Marbella

Austrian player Dominic Thiem, former world number 3 and winner of the US Open 2020, will play the AnyTech365 Andalucía Open 2022, which takes place from March 27 to April 3 at Puente Romano Beach Resort in Marbella, after receiving the last of the three invitations available to the organization of the tournament.

Thiem played his last match in the circuit almost nine months agowhen at the Mallorca Championships last June had to retire just having played seven games of the matchafter suffering pain in his right wrist that ended up being diagnosed as a muscle tear.

That injury has kept him out of the competition ever since. However, at the Andalucía Open 2022 he will have the opportunity to return. Thiem has 16 ATP Tour titles under his belt, in addition to the aforementioned ‘Grand Slam’including the 2019 Indian Wells Masters 1000 and a runner-up finish at the 2020 ATP Finals.

Between the years 2019 and 2020 he signed a balance of 9 wins and 3 losses against Djokovic, Nadal and Federerwhich made him, along with Andy Murray, the only player with at least five wins against each member of the ‘Big 3’.
