Thiem starts strong and Nishioka eliminates Auger-Aliassime

Dominic Thiem, champion of the recent US Open and finalist in the last two years at Roland Garros, began his career in the French Grand Slam with a resounding victory in a first-round duel that seemed difficult at first against Marin Cilic. But the Croatian, in low hours, did not offer much resistance and the Austrian dispatched him in three sets and 2h: 06: 6-4, 6-3 and 6-3. This is how Thiem started in Paris, showing that he is a firm candidate for the title, with the permission of Nadal and Djokovic. Thiem did not need to force the machine too much and it was enough to minimize unforced errors (21), while his rival was shot (43). In the second round, Dom will face the recovered American Jack Sock, who beat his compatriot Opelka 6-4, 6-4 and 6-3.

Another favorite, 19th, Felix Auger-Aliassime, disappointed with his loss to the always dangerous Yoshihito Nishioka., more than the rival, a very worthy tennis player, due to the ease with which he fell in three sets: 7-5, 6-3 and 6-3 in 2:32. The Canadian left the game because of his 58 unprovoked misses. The Japanese now awaits the French Gaston. Another seed eliminated at the first exchange is the local player Gael Monfils (8th), who was overtaken by Kazakh Alexander Bublik 6-4, 7-5, 3-6 and 6-3 in two and a half hours of play. The poor efficiency of Bublik with his first serve (only 52% of points won), with which he returned to leave services behind, was not enough to prevent his victory. The third seed eliminated on Monday was Serbian Filip Krajinovic (26th), defeated by his compatriot Nikola Milojevic 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 and 6-1 in more than three hours. Milojevic, number 144 in the world and who came from the previous one, reaches the second round of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career, where he will face Bedene.

The rest of the favorites advanced with a firm step. The Norwegian Casper Ruud (28th) defeated the Japanese Yuichi Sugita by 6-1, 6-3 and 6-1 in just an hour and a half of the match. Ruud is already in the second round thanks to his effectiveness in the second serve, the rest, and his winning shots. The American Tommy Paul awaits you. With much suffering, the German Jan-Lennard Struff (30º) advanced, which he found in Frances Tiafoe a serious rival, and it took four hours of play to win 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-3, 6-7 (2) and 6-3. The 23 direct aces from the German were one of the keys in the even duel.

Results and schedule.
