MADRID, 9 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The captain of the Brazilian team, Thiago Silva, lamented the ‘Canarinha’ defeat against Croatia in a penalty shootout and, although he acknowledged that falling in the quarterfinals of the 2022 World Cup “hurts a lot”, he insisted that now we have to “raise your head” and “keep going”.
“I have gone through some disappointments in my life, not only in the national team, but also in my personal life. When we lose something important that you have like a goal, it hurts like that, it hurts a lot, but it is trying to raise your head and move on. There is no other alternative,” the player said in statements to the Brazilian soccer federation, collected by Europa Press.
The Brazilian central defender confessed that he had the dream of lifting the cup, although he assumed that he lost the opportunity. “I’m a guy who got up every time I fell, this time it won’t be. I’m staying here. Unfortunately as a player I won’t be able to lift this cup. Who knows later with another role,” he said.
“It’s difficult, but as much as it’s sad, life needs to move on, now you have to raise your head. I’m very proud of the boys for what we did, but unfortunately this is part of football,” he said.
The Brazilian pointed to the lack of concentration as the main reason for the elimination and the Croatian goal in the last minutes of extra time. “I think that in football we are subject to taking something regardless of the rival on the other side, especially a quality team. We could be a little more focused, we are not used to taking this type of counterattack, we are always organized”, he concluded.
