They hire Jedd Fisch as their coach, taking him away from Arizona.

Sources say that Fisch was chosen as the next coach after Troy Dannen, the sports director of Washington, interviewed him again this weekend.

After the first round of calls made by candidates after Kalen DeBoer quit for Alabama, he was the only one who showed up for a second interview.

Sources told ESPN that Arizona held a staff meeting at 6 p.m. ET and a team meeting at 6:30 p.m. ET, during which Fisch told the team that he was leaving for Washington.

A source said that Fisch or his family went to Washington to speak with the Huskies around 11:30 p.m. ET after his talks with Arizona.

Fisch made a movie that Washington shared on social media before getting on the plane in Arizona. He told Huskies fans at the end of the video, “Let’s go get which championship that everybody’s been talking about.”

Washington and Fisch will hold their first news conference together on Tuesday at 2 p.m. ET.

“We wanted to move quickly but thoroughly, and looked out for a coach who would build in our foundation, bring energy into the program, has a track record of success, is a top recruiter, and was a name that young men wanted to play for,” Dannen said in an announcement.

“All of those traits and more were found in Jedd Fisch. Through our talks, it became clear that he shares our principles and aspirations for UW Football. He is the perfect coach for the job at this point.

Sources told ESPN that Fisch’s deal with Washington is for seven years and pays an average of $7.75 million per year. This confirms a story in The Athletic. The move was made public by the school on social media at 7:20 p.m. ET.

Sources say that Washington will get $5.5 million to get Fisch out of Arizona. That’s just under fifty percent of the $12 million that Washington is supposed to get when DeBoer leaves for Alabama.

Arizona’s athletic director, Dave Heeke, said in a statement, “We did not want Coach Fisch to leave and made every attempt to retain him by continuing to invest in the football program.

We wish him the best when he begins a new chapter of his career.” Heeke also said that a national search is underway for a coach.

“We agree on what needs to be done next for the team and our athletes.” Arizona Football is set up for future achievement and championships, and I’m sure we’ll be able to find a new boss who will keep our nationally ranked-top football team going in the right direction.

Sources say Fisch stood out from the other candidates for some reasons. He knows how to build a team in the Big Ten because he was the offensive coordinator at Michigan in 2015 and 2016.

He was also the quarterbacks coach of the Seattle Seahawks in 2010 under Pete Carroll, who was the team’s veteran coach until he quit last week.

His name is Pete Carroll, and he is the offensive coordinator as well as offensive line coach within Arizona.

Fisch, who is 47 years old, has a lot of college and work experience. Before that, he was the quarterbacks coach with the New England Patriots or the offensive coordinator over Jim Harbaugh at Michigan, Miami, and UCLA. He has also been the offensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

This past season was his best. Arizona won its last seven games in a row to finish the season 10-3. In the Alamo Bowl, they blew out No. 12 Oklahoma. Fisch’s high-level recruitment skills and understanding of recruiting on the West Coast also stood out to people in charge in Washington.

Tetairoa McMillan and Noah Fifita, a quarterback, became two of the best young football players in college football according to Fisch. This week, a lot of attention will be paid to their fate after he leaves.

Fisch said in the beginning of the news release, “The Huskies’ unbelievable success over the last two seasons shows what UW is capable of.”

“And I cannot wait to compete for Big Ten or national championships alongside tremendous young men and an outstanding staff of coaches that we will assemble.”
